Project

Every year, the Moscow International Exhibition of weapons and goods for hunting "ORЁLEXPO" is held in the Moscow Gostiny Dvor. The purpose of the industry exhibition is to unite manufacturers, sellers, users of civilian, hunting, sports and edged weapons, legislators regulating the circulation of weapons, professionals from the fields of security and tourism, ecology and regional development on one platform.

Task

For the ORЁLEXPO 2020 exhibition, we were faced with the task of developing the VaRms virtual reality application, a prototype of a virtual small arms store, in 2 months.

Main application metrics:

  1. The realism of the models, both in appearance and in the realistic sounds of the shutter, trigger and shot;
  2. Realistic models of ammunition and equipment;
  3. Convenience of the application for demonstration and sale of exhibits;
  4. Ease of control - aiming, reloading, shooting.

Result

A painstaking work was carried out on 3D scanning of real weapons of the presented brands with special high-resolution scanners and subsequent edits (retopology) of the obtained 3D models and applying realistic textures that reflect the appearance of real weapons - the brilliance of metal parts, the haze of wood, the roughness of corrugated surfaces.

The application includes the following features:

  1. Inspection of small arms brands Glock, Zoli and Fabarm - removing the clip / magazine, switching firing modes, shutter operation.
  2. Inspection of non-lethal weapons of the Osa brand, as well as ammunition for it of various types of impact.
  3. Shooting at targets at the turn with adjustable range, with the possibility of approaching the targets to the turn on a rail suspension.
  4. The study of the internal structure of weapons in the analysis, indicating the names of individual elements. The disassembled weapon can be examined both on a stand with illumination, and by taking it in hand.
  5. Free movement through the internal gallery of the virtual Gostiny Dvor and viewing the exhibition stands.

The user has the ability, at the touch of a button, to disassemble the presented weapon into its constituent elements, and examine them up close using the free hand, after which it is also easy to assemble the weapon into a single whole.

An important feature of the application is the safe inspection of various models of small arms and ammunition, incl. rare models and a visual display of information about the characteristics of weapons.
